Kim Woo-jin wins World Cup Final in men's archery...moves to No. 1 in world rankings

Three-time Paris 2024 Olympic archery medalist Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Government) has won the 2024 Modern Archery World Cup Final.

Kim defeated Lee Woo-seok (Kolon) 7-3 in the recurve men's individual final on the final day of competition in Tlaxcala, Mexico, on Sunday (June 21) to stand atop the podium.

Kim swept the men's individual, team, and mixed team gold medals at the Paris Olympics and proved himself to be the best archer in the sport by dominating the World Cup Finals, the crowning event of this year's World Cup Series.

With his fifth career World Cup Final victory, Kim moved into a tie for first place with USA's Brady Ellison for the most wins in the event.

He also added 80 ranking points to overtake Ellison as the world's No. 1 archer.

Lee was disappointed to lose in the semifinals of the men's individual event at the Paris Olympics to Kim Woo-jin, another big stage matchup. 파워볼사이트

Lee finished as the runner-up at the World Cup Finals for the third time in his career (2018 and 2023) and maintained his world No. 4 ranking.

The World Cup Final featured the winners of the men's and women's individual events at the three previous World Cups this year, including Paris Olympic gold medalists Kim Woo-jin and Lim Im-hyun (Korea Gymnastics Team).

In addition, the top three World Cup ranking points earners (counting only individual World Cup performances) and the host country's best athlete were among the eight men and women competing in the tournament.

In the women's competition, Lim Im-hyun and Jeon Hoon-young (Incheon City Hall) lost in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, and were eliminated early.

South Korean archery proved to be a dominant force at this year's World Cup, winning a total of 20 medals - nine gold, eight silver and three bronze - in the first three events and the final.
